āJean Beliveau’s father gave him his first pair of skates at the age of 5.
āLocal Priests coached him.
āTo encourage him his father constructed a small skating rink.
āStepping onto the ice
was the beginning of
his dream.
āScoring 378 goals in
one season of Pewee
Hockey was the
beginning of a legend.
āAt a young age , Jean Beliveau won the Quebec Senior Hockey League scoring championship with the Quebec Aces in 1953.
āJean Beliveau kept the
Canadians waiting,
but signed to join the
team in 1951.

āBernie Geoffrion, Jean
Beliveau’s friend,
said that he was like a
machine; he knew
when to pass, when to
shoot ,ect.
āBeliveau was the main reason that the Canadians won five Stanley cups from 1956 to 1960 when he was captain and five when he was on the ice.
āThat record that still stands today.
āIt came as no surprised, except to Jean Beliveau, that the coachnamed him captain in 1961.

ā He was able to touch people, he could just look or give them a simple touch and he would be able to get the plan across to them.
āJean Beliveau made
a great captain for
the Montreal Canadiens,
it is hard for the captains
after Beliveau to live up to
him.
āAt the end of the 70-71 season
Jean Beliveau retired, as his team
leading scorer.

āIn his time playing he
scored 507goals and 712 assists.

āOn October 9 1971 his
jersey, number 4, was retired.

āIn 1972 he was inducted to
the Hockey Hall If Fame.
āIn 1994 Jean was offered a position of Governor of Canada but denied the offer over personal concerns.
āThen in 2001 he was added to Canada’s walk of fame, the same year he was honored with his portrait on a Canadian postage stamp.
āJean also supported the NHL’s position during the 2004-05 NHL lockout, arguing that the player’s demands would the sport and the league.
āCurrently Jean Beliveau is fighting for his life against cancer.

āHe is recovering from 2 month of radiation therapy
To treat the tumor in his neck.

āBeliveau has always faced his
problems with dignity.

ā“ Elegant on the ice,
distinguish off it,”
says Gretzky
